Robby the Robot's mouth lit up when he spoke. Now your computer can do the same!
Robby can
listen.
When talking, his icon reflects the volume of whatever sound is being played. When listening, his icon reflects anything he hears through the microphone.
Robby is an extensible, object-oriented mission-critical tool for vertically scalable, document-centric, cross-platform, custom portable applications development.
Robby is a MiscKit example that shows how to use the MiscVolumeLight/MiscVolumeMeter objects, the MiscTapper object, and the MiscAppIcon category.
Robby's MiscTapper object jams the input stream open by constantly making recording requests. NeXT's poor little NXSoundIn device just can't keep this up indefinitely. As a result, after some period of time (days on black hardware, sometimes minutes on Intel boxes), Robby will cease to be able to
listen,
and other recording applications will not be able to record, until you toggle to
and then back to
listen
